MEET DR. MIKE LIANG

Dr. Mike Liang, MD, is an international leader in surgical care and practices right here in Houston and Kingwood, Texas.  Throughout his career, he has built his reputation as one of the most experienced general, minimally invasive, and hernia surgeons in the world.  When doctors and healthcare professionals seek advice or surgery, Dr. Liang is who they turn to. 

Dr. Liang graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology/Physiology cum laude.  Upon completion, he returned to his home state and graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine.  Dr. Mike Liang continued his education, completing his surgical training at the University of Colorado.

Since that time, Dr. Mike Liang built his career as an internationally renowned general, minimally invasive, abdominal wall reconstruction (hernia), and foregut (gastroesophageal) surgeon.  His research is based upon his actual clinical practice and his publications lead the world in cutting edge approaches in surgical care.  He and his mentees have been recognized and awarded for exceptional teaching, research, quality improvement, and patient care (see below).  He travels internationally teaching and mentoring other surgeons how to improve the quality of their patient care, optimize their surgical technique, and integrate cutting edge innovation into their surgical practice. 

He is a leader in multiple surgical societies including the American College of Surgeons  where he co-chairs the General Surgery Review Course for general surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons where he serves on the Hernia Task Force and helped develop the Virtual Hernia Clinic, Americas Hernia society where he serves as the Chair of Quality and Outcomes of the Research Council, and Surgical Infection Society where he served as co-Chair for the program committee and Strategic Planning Committee. 

Currently, Dr. Mike Liang is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Houston, practices at the renowned HCA Healthcare Kingwood, and is the Program Director for the HCA Healthcare Kingwood General Surgery Residency program where he guides the training and education of future leaders in surgery.  https://kingwoodsurgery.com

When Dr. Liang is away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and outdoor activities. In addition, he volunteers at the Houston Food Bank, Faith in Practice, and Fort Bend Women’s Center.
